Session 9
August 22, 2025
August 22, 2025
The group meet up at Jelloshot's apartment that morning to discuss all of the previous day's events. Jelloshot, using a forgery kit he was able to put together with items that Darnelius retrieved from Gleblex's shop, put together a fake ID for one Flixworth Weatherbee, which comes out with mixed results.
To start their day, they head to the Brine Widow, a tavern in the Artisan's Quarter known for being a source of work offers and quests. On their way, they pass by a newspaper boy selling copies of today's paper. Detailed inside are a string of recent crimes in the Artisan's Quarter. An arson/theft at the museum, a double murder, and some tax fraud. An usually dense string of crimes for the area to say the least.
After thinking back on it, Jelloshot realizes that he actually recognized the leader of the band of thugs that attacked them, another fairly infamous thief who operates around the Thieve's Quarter.
As the party enters the Brine Widow, the barkeep addresses them knowingly, saying "Ah, she's been waiting for you". A strange occurance considering they only just planned to come here this morning, but nonetheless they enter a room and meet a tiefling named Verity Kye offers them a job prospect, a heist of sorts against the Afterlife Casino. The casino is owned by one Quentin Togglepocket, whom Verity has a very personal grudge with. After listening to her pitch and getting all the info Verity knows, the party accepts the job and receive her bag of holding, a map, and ferry tickets. The map they receive is of the casino, which Verity had drawn up by a construction worker she bribed who helped build the casino (see the Stygian Gambit / Handouts page).
Verity's info:
Arrival. Wooden boats shuttle visitors and personnel to and from the casino, which is built inside a cavern. The boats ply the river that leads to the cavern.
Employees. The casino employs tieflings only.
Employee-Only Areas. Doors to employee-only areas have bright-green trim and are magically locked. Getting into them might require the characters to obtain an employee pass card, which bypasses the magical locks.
Security Mirrors. Magical security mirrors throughout the casino (marked on Verity's map with red icons) project what they reflect onto twin mirrors in the security office.
The Prize. The gold coins and the erinyes statuette are kept in the vault.
The party has just over 48 hours to complete the job, so they head over to the River Quarter and start gathering any info they can about getting to and from the casino.
On the way, they stop at Unearthed Arcana, a magic shop in the Artisan's Quarter run by an eclectic man named Morley. Most of his wares are a bit out of the price range of the party, but they do pick up a couple spell scrolls.
